October Update

It’s 12:44 am on Tuesday night (early Wed. morning) as I write this. I had my knee surgery yesterday (Monday) at 10:00 am. Even though it’s a bit difficult to sleep, I am very happy with how things are progressing. Last night I had some incredible pain that I will not soon forget. Thinking that it was going to last many days is why I’m feeling pretty good right now. I can now rest comfortably and there’s only slight pain when I get out of bed. Nurse Jaimelee has been phenomenal. I think I’ve been out of bed seven total times since I returned home. She’s been catering to my every need and is also in charge of my medications as there are six. She usually hands me about five pills and I just throw them in my mouth. Should I be worried or more involved in this process? I haven’t died yet, so I figure she knows what she’s doing.

This surgery does have its upsides. I am now forced to sit still for many days. For those that know me well, know this is very difficult for me. Not only have I been able to catch up on all of the baseball, football, and political garbage going on, but Bob let me borrow his PS3 and I’ve been killing lots and lots of people in Call of Duty. Games have changed quite a bit in the last five years. I have to be careful when playing as there are many times my arms and legs flail all around like I’m really the one in the action. Being laid up also allows me to finally update this blog. Believe it or not, but I do feel badly when the blog goes weeks without any new posts. I know this is how many people stay connected with us and I need to do a better job adding more posts. Maybe I can have surgery every few weeks.

So, what have we been up to in the last month?

Besides taking care of me, Jaimelee has been planning Alexis’ upcoming birthday party. I think we are doing a tinkerbell or princess theme for her party. My sister had a beer theme for her daughter's first birthday and I'm wondering where we've gone wrong. As long as all birthdays from this point foward are soccer related, I'm cool with one princess party. Alexis is going to be one spoiled kid (read ahead to see what she really likes). Jaimelee was also able to take a girls weekend in NYC three weeks ago. She had a blast and I have a feeling more trips like this will be planned in the future. Alexis and I were able to spend a much needed weekend together… I almost think she forgot who I was with my schedule lately.

Good segue, I guess. The second month of school for me has been incredibly busy. We took the kids to a high ropes course for a day and then we took them on a nature hike. This on top of meetings and committees I’m now on, has made this last month very crazy. Even more time consuming was my coaching commitment. I had an absolute blast coaching, but it began to be a bit much. Having practice or games every day after school made for extremely long days and long weeks. We had our last game last Saturday. We kept our consistent season going by losing by one. For the entire season, we didn’t win a game. Came close a bunch of times, but never were able to put it all together. Somehow I convinced my wife that I was in need of a boy’s weekend to properly celebrate this soccer season. I got to see a lot of people that I haven’t seen in a while and at some point on Friday night realized that I was as young as I used to be. Whoa… I’m old!

Alexis keeps us smiling every day. She has just realized that her voice sounds different when she puts her hands up to her mouth. She now sounds like a little Pocahontas. She’s really not that close to walking yet, but we’re ok with this. She cruises around the house fast enough as it is. Gone are the days where we could make dinner and just sit her with a couple of toys. On her adventures, she has realized that there are some places she’s not allowed to go. When we say, “NO!” she simply looks up and gives the biggest devilish smile. Not sure what is so funny about the word “no” but it’s not going to be funny for long. I have a feeling she’s going to be quite the class clown when she’s older- definitely taking after her mother and not her angelic father. I really can’t believe she’s going to be one year old next Thursday. How does that happen?

Here are some pictures of the little one in recent weeks:

Happy Kid!

Telling Maddie who's boss.

Her first carving job... she'll do better next year.

Sitting forwards in the car. She's very happy about the switch.

Loves being inside boxes.

Spooky.

Oh, so happy.

Olivia's birthday party.

This doll was on sale because the box was open.

Hard to see, but this is her inside the box.

Is it wrong that we stick our kid in boxes?
